The cavalry ain’t comin’

I was chatting to a client this morning and we concluded that the economy was likely to be as it is for a while yet and we’d probably better get used to that.

All too often, I hear people bemoaning the economic conditions and, frankly, wasting their limited energy on negative thinking. It’s time for business owners to recognise that the cavalry isn’t going to arrive any time soon, so they’d better work out how to help themselves. Of course, the more proactive among you will have recognised that a long time ago. You are likely to be out-performing the rest and many of my clients are doing just that.

As Stephen Covey has always said, you can’t change what happens to you, but you can decide what to do next. In fact that’s all you can do. Blaming external stimuli for the position you find yourself in simply isn’t helping either your state of mind or your financial results.

I recommend scheduling an hour to work out what you can do and when you’ll do it. It’ll bring a sense of control back to your life and make you feel better straight away. Who knows, you may not need the cavalry after all.
